Sizzling Summer

Published Thursday 05 of August, 2010

Summer in San Francisco means three-day cycles of warm and cold, ice cream and cocoa. Hopefully, you're enjoying it all! Here's an update on important changes at Tel-Hi and on our successful summer youth programs--more crucial than ever with the district-wide cancellation of summer school this year.
Thank You to Tim Daniels - Summer 2010 includes saying a giant thank you and farewell to Tim Daniels, departing after five very productive years as executive director. Nestor Fernandez is excited to serve as interim executive director, stepping up to keep Tel-Hi's commitment to community vitality moving forward.
Nestor have served on Tel-Hi's board for the past two years, and his passion for our mission stretches back over eight years of volunteer and sponsorship activities during his management positions at The San Francisco Bay Club and Western Athletic Clubs. Like Tim,Nestor is welcoming what comes next!
Summer Camp at Tel-Hi - As always, our programs keep rolling. Summer Camp is coming to an exciting close next week with MAJOR FUN for kids (see our events calendar). Without summer school this year, the inspiring and safe place we create for kids has become even more precious for working families and children longing for adventure and care.
Summer Camp Takes the Heat Off of Families Thanks to your many gifts, Tel-Hi is supporting families with:
- free early-morning and after-camp care,
- 50% sibling discounts, and
- major subsidies for all who need them.
Summer Camp means kid-centric summers for about 120 children, aged 5 to 11, each week.
PLUS 33 teens in our Youth Leadership Program are gaining job skills as they assist our staff with programming and admin!
One Cool Community - Tel-Hi summer sights include a child finding a new pal, a teen guiding an elderly person through e-mail, seniors exercising amid the garden's blooms and veggies. Feel free to contact Nestor (415-421-6443 or nestor@tel-hi.org) for a tour of "summer at Tel-Hi" or just to give him a chance to meet you. And when the board decides who will lead Tel-Hi next, you'll be the first to know.
